ABOUT
Ian Hoy
Bassoonist Ian Hoy joined the faculty at Ashland University in 2009 as well as Principal Bassoon with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra. Previous posts include Co-Principal Bassoon with the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra in Merida, Mexico. Mr. Hoy enjoys a freelancing career, performing with the Toledo Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Cleveland Pops, Canton Symphony, Akron Symphony, Mansfield Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, Firelands Symphony, and touring shows at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square.
In 2018, Mr. Hoy founded the Doan Brook Trio for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, to raise awareness of social justice issues through enriching programs that are fact based and have a personal connection. In addition to performing, Mr. Hoy obtained his Masters in Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music where he was a student of John Clouser. He attended Ball State University as a student of Dr. Keith Sweger for undergraduate studies.
